After ‘Broute’, Bertrand Usclat lands his first film role: “It did me a lot of good”

The actor landed his first major film role with Twins but not too many, in theaters this Wednesday. He recounts this first experience and projects it with his famous humorous pill.

The public knew him in short formats, on the Internet. You will learn to rediscover it on the big screen, in a feature film. Known for humorous pill chafingBertrand Usclat now attacks the cinema. share this wednesday with Ahmed Sylla the movie poster Twins but not too many.

A comedy with a slightly subversive tone: 33 years after their birth, two twin brothers suddenly discover each other’s existence. For Grégoire, candidate (on the right) for mayor of Angoulême, and Anthony, who multiplies odd jobs, the surprise is all the greater since one is white and the other black. They will meet and discover the secret of his birth.

Bertrand Usclat was won over by this cliché-busting story, he confesses to BFMTV: “I found it very nice to start with a tone that could resemble the tone of a bad movie. We could have made jokes about the differences between French and African.” families, but the film takes a direction that I find super surprising for a French comedy. People will walk away with more than they came to see.”

After the success of chafingBertrand Usclat has received many proposals -“many comedies, few dramas, only unappetizing things”-, but it is for Twins but not too many that he was in love: “Since I know Ahmed’s work, and I know very well the films he defends, I knew that Twins but not too many I was going to avoid some awkward schoolboy humor.”

“I rediscovered the profession a little”

For Bertrand Usclat, this first experience was pleasant: “I was a bit relieved to have time to play, because there was a rule in chafing: They didn’t allow me to make a character that had a slow biorhythm, because otherwise it meant that he spoke slowly and there were fewer jokes that came in 2 minutes 30, the imposed format.

For four years, Bertrand Usclat played in chafing a variety of similar characters, all recognizable by their “pretty quick flow”. “There, for the first time, my goal was not to deliver the most text, but to be good at acting. It did me a lot of good to go back to my initial training”, confesses this former student of the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art. Letters. “I rediscovered the profession a bit.”

And she stepped out of her comfort zone for this movie where she had to cry for the first time on screen. A challenge for which she enlisted the help of Ahmed Sylla: “If there had been another, it would not have happened like this”, she believes. “I’m not a gaming machine. I really need to have a connection with my fellow players. I can’t play in any conditions. It took me a while to realize that.”

Never without Pauline Clement

The actor, who multiplied the small ungrateful roles before standing out with chafinghe knows very well the “humiliating castings in the rotten Parisian offices”, where the conditions to give the best of oneself are rarely met: “You have to keep the faith. Achieving a sparkle in the eyes is an immensely hard profession”, insists who made himself known within the group Yes he loves you.

“Without being capricious”, Usclat acknowledges that it is difficult for him “to come and play something with someone I don’t know, for something that is just my job”: “At one point I had lost faith because I feel as if I were in an acting industry. That’s why I started doing things with my friends.” And the cinema often associates her with Pauline Clément, her accomplice in chafing.

The duo briefly crossed paths in Liar, a comedy by Olivier Baroux released this summer. It was reformed in Twins but not too many. Believing that Bertrand Usclat had included in his contracts that he could not shoot without Pauline Clément. “I wish that was it, it’s a pleasure working with her,” he exclaims. “Besides, she’s always chosen first. She’s stronger than me!”

“I really solved one thing with ‘Broute'”

“Super proud” of Twins but not too many, Bertrand Usclat does not want to see him again. “I don’t take it for granted. I want her to live his life before I see him again.” It must be said that his character, a politician who studied at Sciences Po, reminds her of his own journey. “Except that he managed it,” specifies the interested party. “Yo, I missed Sciences Po.” But for a long time he has been obsessed, like his character, with the need for recognition.

“It’s fixed now,” says the actor. “I dreamed of making movies and then chafing, I did not care. I actually fixed something with chafing, to be honest. Now I try not to create new dreams for myself. What will break my whole life, I think, will be what I have done with him. chafing. Everything I will write, all the movies I will make, will always be the same theme. I want to be true to that.”

Breaking his image interests him little. “From the moment you don’t assume who you are, you are taken for someone else. I always wanted to have heavier roles, but I’m not like that. I was able to find my sensitivity and my seriousness from the moment I accepted that it was light. Afterwards, life is long. I’m going to get old. Maybe I’ll break my teeth, end up drinking alcohol and then they’ll tell me I’m serious.”

The sequel to “Broute”?

Meanwhile, Bertrand Usclat prepares the return of chafing on Canal+. I finished the 2 minute pill. The humorist dreams of offering “a long version” of his program. But despite an announcement at the encrypted channel’s back-to-school conference, nothing is official at the moment, according to him: “They’re the ones saying it. I’m the author, so I doubt it.”

He began to write. “I have ideas, clues, but I don’t really know if it’s any good. I have a trust issue. I don’t like any episode of chafing until it came out. I learn to love them later. I have so much nose that I can’t tell if it’s great or if it’s catastrophic, if I’m not going to blow up my brand that I’ve been developing for four years with the project too many. “

this new chafing He will be with the same team. Bertrand Usclat also dreams of welcoming film personalities, including Ahmed Sylla, for cameos. “I hope now people want to play in it.” He is also working on writing a fictional film, a comedy. “I am going for a leftist mayor, to make the issue of coexistence. I find it super interesting.”
