Covid-19: the Minister of Health asks to “resume the reflex of putting on a mask” when necessary

Aurélien Rousseau wants the use of a mask to be “banal” when you have respiratory symptoms, when you are a fragile person or are in close contact with one of them.

France is experiencing a slight uptick in Covid-19 contamination, while a new variant is under increased surveillance globally. “Covid and the mutations that we know of do not present particularly worrying dangers or levels of incidence, but we are monitoring them,” Aurélien Rousseau declared on BFMTV-RMC.

“We have not disarmed our surveillance system but we have changed to a more classic system such as for the flu,” explained the Minister of Health on Monday.

The mask as “reflection”

However, it does not rule out making the use of a mask mandatory again in the event of a greater epidemic recovery. “I think there is an intermediate step: the trivialization of the mask when you have respiratory symptoms, that goes to go to the baker or to a minister who goes to the government for questions,” he says.

“We must all tell ourselves that wearing a mask is something banal that must be a reflection”, adds the minister, in particular for those who are in contact with fragile people.

“The French do not need to infantilize, but they need to know where we are: an incidence that is slightly increasing and a very low hospital impact,” concludes Aurélien Rousseau.
