The final amount collected during the teleton of November 2024 is now known: 96,553,593 euros. It was its organizer since 1987, the French Association against Miopathies (AFM-Telethon), which announced the fruit of this fundraising this Monday, March 31. The total exceeds 3 million of the sum collected in 2023.
“This result is the fruit of a formidable impulse of solidarity, transported by millions of donors, volunteers and partners, faithful to the struggle of families for almost 40 years,” they have rejoiced the organizers.
These millions of euros will go to investigation against rare diseases. This edition was special since the treatment could see daylight to treat Duchenne’s myopathy, a disease so far in reputation of being incurable. This is one of the causes of the creation of AFM.
The needs in 2025 to finance an “exceptional essay” on this disease “exceed 30 million euros,” said Laurence Tiennot-Herment, president of the Association, last November.
See you on December 5 and 6
“The Fight continues” already advocates AFM-Teléthon on its website, remembering that “95 % of rare diseases still remain without treatment,” fixing on December 5 the dates of the 2025 edition.
A new year of generosity? From a strong abandonment during the 2020 pandemic, the harvested sums find gently colors. The year marked by confinement had registered a historical decrease in donations, with 77.3 million euros. As a comparison, the absolute registry was signed in 2006 with 106 million euros.
