Measles: What we know about the 13 cases declared after the agricultural show

Measles cases were identified in Normandy, Occitanie, île-de-France and Auverne-Rhône-Alpes in people who have attended the agricultural show (SIA), a month ago. In Isère, a cluster resulted from this infection, causing at least one serious case.

A measles group at the Agricultural Fair? The 61st edition of the international meeting was held from the end of February to the beginning of March of Paris, with a total of 607,503 visitors in the various corridors. And among them: one or more patients who carry this extremely contagious virus.

Interested regions, risk to the general public, vaccination campaigns … This is what we know about this recently identified cluster.

• At least 13 cases in 4 different regions

As BFMTV.com revealed on Saturday, March 29, the Ministry of Health was warned “situations at viral dissemination risk by several regions of measles cases in people who attended or worked in the agricultural show”, without specifying the number of pollution.

According to our information, at least 13 separate cases have for common time by the fair, without a link between the different people involved. Patients come from four regions: Occitanie, île-de-France, Normandie and Auverne-Rhône-Alpes.

“In Normandy, two cases of measles have been identified in people who have attended the agricultural show, resident respectively in the channel and in the sea of ​​Sena. These two cases are now cured.

In Occitania, “three cases of measles have been reported”, probably linked to the agricultural show “, are” isolated and without other secondary cases identified. “With respect to île-de-France, the regional agency did not respond to our requests.

Finally, in Auverne-Rhône-Alpes, at least one person was infected in Isère during a visit to the SIA, in turn, causing a group of 18 cases.

• Exhibitors alerted March 20, “unlikely” that simple visitors are affected

If the health authorities have taken in these cases grouped, the main concerned were called to surveillance within the shortest deadlines. As of March 19, the Ministry of Health contacted the director of SIA, Valérie Le Roy.

“They offered to send a text message to the exhibitors to inform them of this situation, what we did from March 20,” said the director.

The 1100 participating companies, as well as suppliers and organizers were called to surveillance in a document consulted by BFMTV.com. Potential symptoms and use precautions are mentioned.

Valérie Le Roy ensures that the Ministry of Health has been reassuring the risk of measles measles among the visitors of the agricultural show. “They told me that it was unlikely, unless they met someone, however, they asked us to consider all our exhibitors.”

• In Isrere, a cluster and at least one serious case

One of these contamination during the SIA ended up leading to other group infections, a group identified in Isère, as the local health agency explained on Friday, March 28. “There was a first case, which contaminated other cases, as part of a transmission chain in educational establishments,” said Anne-Sophie Ronnaux-Bron, head of health monitoring at the local Ars.

In total, 18 measles cases were identified according to a last evaluation. Its origin could be the approval of a class of the Agricultural School of Côte-Saint-André at the Paris Fair. According to our information, at least one person had to be hospitalized after developing a serious form of the disease.

To prevent the disease from spreading too much in the department, a vaccine capture campaign began on Monday, March 31 in the city on Monday. About fifteen students whose vaccination scheme was not complete could receive the immune dose.

“There is no concern in families,” says Mayor Joël Gullon.

• A highly contagious disease that is gaining ground in France and Europe

In France, health agencies alerted health professionals in early March, then the general public, on the multiplication of measles cases, while “more than 20% of cases were hospitalized.”

Public Health France asked everyone to “reinforced surveillance against the resurgence of cases in France and Europe”, since several cases were remarkably imported from abroad.

“In total, around 20% are of imported origin from 7 different countries. Since the beginning of the year, there has been a significant increase in the number of cases imported from measles, especially Morocco,” SPF said on March 20.

In the United States, measles is furious with several hundred cases in about twenty different states. The epidemic propagates in the absence of sufficient vaccination coverage.

In France, it is estimated that vaccination coverage is only 90%, while a 95% rate is considered necessary to stop pollution. Since 2018, two doses of vaccine have been mandatory before 18 months in young children.
