As part of the school health that was held this Wednesday, May 14, Elisabeth Borne, Minister of National Education, announced several technical measures of reorganization and training to better guarantee the mental health of university students and high school students in France.
Objective: “Ask the way in which the school is structured to allow to face the challenges related to the well -being of students.” Given many structural difficulties and lack of attractiveness in the school health sector, several clues have been announced to better train staff and students.
First measure: that of the medical examination, very often abandoned by schools. Today, only 20% of six -year -old students access this meeting. The government now wants 100% of students of this age to approve this visit.
After this meeting, a multicotegy team will study the children’s archives to plan, depending on the situations of each student, a medical visit with the school doctor or a psychological evaluation with a national educational psychologist or a consultation with the nurse of the school establishment. The objective is to identify any mental disorder.

Even in terms of student management, a system will be established without trimming in the medical-psychological centers (CMP) to avoid a new student evaluation phase identified in fragility.
The objective is to download to the doctors of the school from administrative positions to better focus on students’ health. In addition, the Ministry of National Education also wants to strengthen the advice of doctors for educational development planned in establishments.
A protocol of attention will also be established in each school and secondary school and in each district for schools, to guide staff in the face of students’ mental health problems.
This protocol will be implemented in the last quarter for all students. In particular, a training course for school leaders will be launched to better support the student.
A training kit transmitted to staff
Many other training courses are also planned to strengthen the skills of the teaching teams: two employees will receive health in each department, and 100 technical health advisors will be designated for each department since the beginning of the school year in September 2025.
Several other support tools have been announced: a training kit to the social staff of the establishment will be transmitted at the end of the year, and several associations with adolescent houses (Jeunes des Jeunes) will be established or strengthened.
A new module to sensitize students
On the students’ side, training on psychosocial skills will be included in the new school program for 2026. To identify a classmate that goes wrong, a module of consciousness for students, entitled “Help”, will be generalized in classes. The objective is to identify the logic of the harmful group.
In one of the latest reports on the mental health of high school and secondary schools, public health France revealed that the mental health and well -being of students “deteriorate during the university and do not improve in high school.”
According to the agency report published in 2024, 14% of university students and 15% of high school students have a significant risk of depression, and 24% of high school students declare suicidal thoughts in the last 12 months.
