A year of 24 years died despite several calls to Samu, his family will file a complaint

It was enough and only breathed halfway. Esteban Vermeersch, 24, died last January despite the calls to the Samu, learned BFMTV confirming information from our colleagues in Oueest-France.

Breathing difficulties

On January 28, around 10:30 pm, the young man, who worked as a baker, called the 15 Du Mans center in Srthe. He tells you about their breathing difficulties, and their pain radiated in the thorax. The 1m85 and 53 kilos cannot get up, or even to straighten in his bed. His mother and two are worried. For its part, the doctor concludes a muscular problem and advises the taking of analgesics.

The next night is very difficult, Esteban Vomit. “I stayed with him and with the idea that it was nothing, just muscle. We trust doctors. So I didn’t remember …”, explains his mother, Dorothée, with Ousest-France.

When I wake up, the young man is “very pale”, “slightly purple lips.” The mother and her two twin sisters of 20 years, very worried, decide to remember the SAMU around 2:30 pm then the same muscle diagnosis is made. However, the Samu offers the mother to take her son to the emergency room to “calm down.”

“I ended up telling my son to leave”

Esteban as amorphous, it’s hard to move it. “Suddenly he collapsed in my arms. I was stopped, I was no longer breathing,” said his mother. A cardiac massage begins, while asking for the third time for help. Firefighters arrive and take over. After a 50 -minute cardiac massage, the young man is transferred to the center of the Le Mans hospital.

“All night, I expected,” said Dorothée, with a illness license since the death of his son. “Until they announced that if Esteban woke up, his brain was too damaged by the lack of oxygenation.”

“I ended up telling my son to leave, that it was no longer useful,” he continues. Esteban died on January 30 in the morning, more than 24 hours after his first call to Samu.

Now, the family lawyer, Vincent Sehier, announced to BFMTV his desire to file a complaint this week for involuntary homicide.

According to him, there was an error of regulation of the first call. The lawyer sent last June, twice, a request for a friendly judicial agreement and a right to compensation, without obtaining an answer.

The family had also approached last May from the Le Mans Hospital Mediation Center. For Esteban’s mother, this drama “should not have happened” and “should no longer happen.”
