Covid-19: the president of Covars does not recommend a new booster dose for those under 60 years of age

Despite a resurgence of the Covid-19 epidemic, the president of Covars, Brigitte Autran, estimated on Monday in Télématin that a second booster dose was not necessary for those under 60, if they are not at risk.

With family celebrations approaching and a 9th wave taking shape, the question of protecting vulnerable people returns. Should people under 60 years of age, without risk, and who have already received a booster dose do a second? “We do not recommend this, on the other hand it will be necessary to wear the mask,” Brigitte Autran decided on Monday on the set of Télématin.

“We must appeal to responsibility,” said Brigitte Autran.

The president of the Health Risk Monitoring and Forecasting Committee (Covars) has campaigned, however, for the opening of vaccination centers, a responsibility that she considers to be that of the mayors. Goal: Allow people who are late on schedule to have their first or second booster dose.

“We are not doing a booster dose every six months,” Brigitte Autran said.

“There is a booster vaccine that is recommended and that is not practiced enough, it is not accessible enough,” he nevertheless judged. “Since the beginning of the year, almost eight million people have done the second reminder”, illustrated Brigitte Autran.

As of November 21, only 8.6% of people aged 60 to 79 eligible for a booster tailored to the Omicron variant had received it, according to Public Health France. This figure rose to 9.7% for those over 80 years of age.

“A caregiver must protect himself in front of his patients”

For the president of Covars, the French must remain vigilant while China reaches new pollution records.

“There is a new variant that is invading the whole world, which will be dominant in a few days, and whose epidemic potential we still do not know very well here, in France, where our country is somewhat vaccinated,” Brigitte stressed. Autran, with reference to variant BQ.1.1.

In its epidemiological update of November 24, Santé Publique France reports that “detection of the BQ.1.1 sublineage continued to increase, with 39% of sequences interpretable during the Flash S45 survey”, up from 29% at the end of October. .

Although the issue of the reinsertion of unvaccinated caregivers resurfaced in the National Assembly, due to a bill by La France insoumise, the scientist expressed her disagreement.

“It is not about reintegrating people who have not been vaccinated, it is unethical. A caregiver must protect himself in front of his patients ”, he wanted to remember.
