The department chose to react. Given the influx of patients in the emergency room due to a triple epidemic of Covid, flu and bronchiolitis, the Eure-et-Loir prefect decided to requisition doctors for the New Year, as confirmed this Saturday, December 31 on BFMTV.
“I have these doctors (on duty) last night, tonight and tomorrow night,” says the prefect Françoise Souliman on our antenna.
“It is true that I do not have all the slots occupied, but the slots from 20 to 00, which are usually the most desperate people, (…) will be insured,” he specifies, indicating that four doctors are concerned.
By mobilizing these professionals, the prefect believes that the decision should make it possible to reduce the number of arrivals at the emergency room. “Last night the doctor made thirty consultations. Of those thirty consultations, four went to the emergency room, the rest were attended by this doctor, saving another 26 from embolizing the other departments ”, he takes it as an example.
Doctors deplore “the dispatch of police forces to (their) office”
The announcement was coolly received by the Eure-et-Loir Order of Physicians. Its president, Julien Cottet, assures on BFMTV that, specifically, the requisition of doctors has not been launched on the ground and that the prefect is content to be “in a balance of power because she is trying to save face.”
“The police forces send us to our homes and our offices in front of the interns and patients,” he denounces.
“What they offer us is a dog trainer,” he adds.
The president of the Eure-et-Loir Order of Physicians recalls that the department suffers from a lack of doctors.
“Are the young doctors that I am part of responsible for the medical desert? No. (…) We are not responsible, we are here to treat people,” he believes, however.
“We launched a call to get out of the crisis to invite them to a meeting, (…) the senators did not respond to us, the deputies did not respond to us,” he says.
