CDS does not exclude agreements with Chega to win PS

The question is simple: yes or no to a coalition agreement or parliamentary agreement with Chega on Madeira? No answer is “yes” or “no”.

The leader of the CDS, Nuno Melo, responds like this: “The agreement that the CDS-M has is with the PSD-M. The perception I have of the CDS-M, which is autonomous, is that it has no government agreements with The Enough It is important to bear in mind that the parliamentary design of Madeira even implies the existence of parties [referência ao JPP] who have no parliamentary representation on the continent. The CDS aims for an absolute majority, which means that the “Somos Madeira” coalition does not depend on other parties, let alone irresponsible parties [referência à IL e ao Chega] who, as seen in the Azores, are available at the first opportunity to open power to the socialist party and to topple centre-right governments”.

And if it depends? “I am not going to appreciate any parties other than the CDS with this answer, which I think will have an absolute majority in the coalition,” replies Nuno Melo.

Rui Barreto, leader of the CDS-M, regional secretary for economics in Miguel Albuquerque’s government, who is part of the national leadership of the party, contacted by DN, replied: “Nothing to declare.”

Rui Barreto does not rule out a government or parliamentary agreement with Chega in Madeira, but agrees with Miguel Albuquerque’s point of refusing the “stigmatization” of Chega saying that “we must always open bridges of dialogue”.

“This stigmatization of Chega comigo does not work, because the party has voters and its statutes and functioning have been accepted by the Constitutional Court (…) a legal party, like any other party (…) we don’t have to have a complex” , Albuquerque underlined.

CDS source claims there are “political” differences because in Madeira they “don’t watch [aos candidatos do Chega] as a typical Enough militant on the continent”.

And even the “ability” of André Ventura’s party to elect “two deputies”, a central source says, or “even three”, as one party leader admits, did not lead the CDS-M to “internally” raise the issue. had discussed.

However, this scenario that could cause “damage” to the national CDS could lead Lisbon to “try everything not to get to that point”. [acordo com Chega]even know the regional autonomy” in Rui Barreto’s CDS and the “local inconvenience it can cause”.

If the “no to Chega on the mainland is clear”, the “difference” in Madeira still lies in the fact that Miguel Albuquerque, president of the regional government, has “publicly” conditioned the CDS by admitting several times that he would not close the doors to Chega.

The most recent was on Wednesday the 21st when he stated that “we [PSD Madeira] we do not draw red lines, because any party that is accepted in the Constitutional Court and that is part of the game of the democratic political framework must be a privileged interlocutor on every issue in all scenarios of a liberal democracy”.

However, there is a “red line” or error in the political rhetoric about the “connecting bridges” to Chega. In recent statements to DN, the parliamentary leader of PSD-Madeira only excludes Ventura’s party from the regional government.

Jaime Filipe Ramos stated that “this scenario [o de uma coligação pós-eleitoral com o Chega] “At the moment it will not happen. Our commitment is with the CDS. Any other scenario is not equivalent to us at this stage. Any agreement, besides the CDS, does not seem likely to us at this time.”

Straight away? “That is to say: it comes to the regional government, no”. And so the door to post-election parliamentary settlement was opened.

A CDS source therefore recalls the words of José Manuel Rodrigues, former leader of the party and current president of the Regional Assembly, when the DN commented on the interview with Miguel Albuquerque.

The PSD leader said he “didn’t need the CDS to live”. And José Manuel Rodrigues admitted that “of course, marriages also break down”. There is another phrase that we remember, but written in a past “without return”. “We think for ourselves and we are an alternative to the PSD and the PS,” said Rui Barreto in 2019.
