The President of the Republic on Monday expressed support for conducting an audit of the financial management of the defense industry, in the name of transparency, regarding the case involving former Secretary of State Marco Capitão Ferreira.
“I think if there is such an idea, it is a good one, in honor of transparency,” declared Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at the end of an initiative in the former royal arena, next to the Palace of Belém, in Lisbon .
Asked about the resignation of the Secretary of State for Defense, Marco Capitão Ferreira, who was accused in the context of the “Perfect Storm” trial, which led to searches at the Ministry of Defense, the Head of State and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces The Armed Forces refused comment from the government.
However, regarding this matter, he noted that he “seemed to understand that the Department of Defense intends to request or determine an audit of the defense industries, their financial management and their accounts.”
“Especially in recent years, since 2020, which I think was the year the last known accounts report,” he specified, expressing support for an audit of this magnitude.
