PSD proposes an additional investigation of the defense holding company by the Court of Audit

In a request to the parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance, the PSD claims that IdD Portugal Defense SA has not published the reports and accounts for 2021 and 2022 on its official website.

On the other hand, “it has been in the news, with public alarm, for the possible practice of acts of an illegal nature, with possible direct or indirect intervention of the now former Secretary of State for National Defense, when he was chairman of the board of directors of directors”.

“An additional audit is proposed by the Court of Auditors of all IdD contracting and acquisition processes” urgently carried out in 2020, 2021 and 2022, says the application, signed by the leader of the parliamentary seat, Miranda Sarmento.

Former Secretary of State for Defense Marco Capitão Ferreira was fired on Friday after submitting his resignation to the Minister of National Defense. On the same day, the former ruler was appointed as a defendant in the “Perfect Storm” trial, which led to searches at the Ministry of Defense.

Marco Capitão Ferreira is suspected of crimes of corruption and economic participation in business.

At the beginning of the “Perfect Storm”, which already had at least 19 defendants, about 3.2 million euros were spent on the contract to convert the former Military Hospital of Belém, in Lisbon, into a Covid-19 support center , with the initial budget for the work being €750,000.

Marco Capitão Ferreira had been Secretary of State for Defense with an absolute majority since the beginning of the current socialist government.

On the day of the resignation, Expresso reported that the now ex-Secretary of State had hired Miguel Fernandes, former administrator of Alfeite, to advise the administration of the defense holding company IdD – Portugal Defence, but the manager was never seen exercising any functions at that location.

Before that, the parliament had already approved the hearing of Marco Capitão Ferreira to clarify a contract signed in 2009 with the Directorate General of Defense Resources, led at the time by Alberto Coelho, one of those involved in the judicial operation Perfect Storm. for an amount of 50,000 euros plus VAT, for services completed in four days.
