Lawyer Carlos Jorge Oliveira, who has been president of the Santa Maria da Feira City Council since 2021, passed away on Monday at the age of 55, an official source from that municipality in the Aveiro district and Porto metropolitan area confirmed.

Several public figures and institutions in the municipality have already expressed their regret on social networks for the “unexpected death” of the social democrat who was also currently a partner in the Campos de Oliveira – Pedrosa de Moura law firm.

“Carlos Oliveira was an exemplary citizen who guided his professional and political activity by dedication and above all by respect for friends and opponents”stated to Lusa, the mayor of Feira, Emídio Sousa.

“amicable man, of dialogue, consensus and sublimity in dealing”said António Valdemar Ribeiro, president of the Parish Council of Fiães.

“It is a time of great pain and horror”says the CDS-PP on its Facebook page.

Over the years, Carlos Oliveira’s curriculum includes the exercise of various functions in the municipal, business and association life of the province. From 2001 to 2005 he served as Councilor for Administration and Finance at the Municipal Council and Director of the Entre Douro e Vouga Regional Development Agency, and from 2002 to 2005 Administrator of the municipal company Feira Viva — Cultura e Esporte, as well as Vice-President of the board of directors of the energy agency Entre Douro e Vouga.

Having chaired the Board of Directors of the Tourism Association of Santa Maria da Feira from 2002 to 2006, he also served as President of the Parish Assembly of Feira between 2005 and 2021.

Among his other positions are that of member of the board of directors of the local Santa Casa da Misericórdia and in the delegation of the region of Feira da Ordem dos Advogados, and of vice president of the board of directors of the Clube Desportivo Feirense — where he was a federated soccer athlete up to the junior level.

Carlos Oliveira was also a member of the Leo Club of the municipality and helped found the Confraria da Fogaça, and throughout his life he served as legal adviser to several companies, particularly in the sectors of commerce, civil construction and public works, manufacturing and transformation paper, footwear, cork and textiles.

The lawyer will now be replaced on an interim basis in the board of the Feira City Council by Cristina Tenreiro, who has previously held the functions of first secretary in that body. The election of the new president should take place at the next regular session of the assembly, which will be held in September.
