The PCP secretary-general said in Faro on Tuesday that the sacrifices demanded in recent years by the crisis, pandemic and war in Ukraine are always left to a huge majority, while a small minority benefits, opportunities and profits.
“In this moment of deep contradictions in which we live, in this moment in which illusion, in which advertising is confronted with everyday reality, with the hard life of each of us, we already know and even anticipate the ever-existing justifications. , as always, the invoices of the various events fall,” said Paulo Raimundo.
At a dinner/meeting in the capital of the Algarve, the communist leader spoke of the crisis, the covid-19 pandemic and the war as reasons “that do not declare absolute truth”.
“In every drama, and in every one of these events, there is always a vast majority to whom the required sacrifices fall. And there is always a small minority for whom there always remain opportunity, for whom there always remain advantage, and for whom there always remain opportunity. gains,” emphasized the PCP’s Secretary General.
Paulo Raimundo stressed that “there is no crisis, no epidemic or war for the richest 5% of the country, who concentrate 42% of the wealth created with the effort of those who work” and that “there are no consequences of the crisis , epidemic or war for the economic groups that had 20 million euros in profit per day in the year 2022 alone”.
“There is nothing that pinches, neither the crisis, nor the epidemic, nor the war, the two billion euros profit that the banking industry made in the first six months of this year alone. There is no crisis, there is no epidemic, there is no is not a war for the 1,000 million euros that leave the country every year for tax havens,” he continued.
The communist leader later wondered: “But the crisis, the epidemic and the war are only left for the three million workers, 70% of the total working population who receive a gross wage of up to 1,000 euros per month, or are they only left for the 2 million people in poverty, of which 300,000 are children? But does the crisis, epidemic or war only affect the lives of the 400,000 elderly people who receive up to 551 euros a month in pension? For the hundreds of thousands of young people who cannot leave their parents’ house, cannot emancipate themselves or start a family?”
Paulo Raimundo assured that the leading party does not underestimate the difficulties and consequences of the crisis, the pandemic and the war, noting that the path followed in these moments has been “always in the service of economic groups”, to the detriment of the people, workers and society majority.
“That’s why we’re penniless and they have deep pockets,” underlined.
The Secretary General of the PCP stated that the political options of parties such as the PS and the PSD have been “stamped by threats, blackmail and attacks on sovereignty by the European Union”, recalling in turn the case of the company Efacec .
On 7 July, the Competition Authority was notified of the acquisition of Efacec by Mutares. Mutares announced on June 23 that it had already signed the agreement to acquire Efacec from the state, for an undisclosed amount, with the closing of the transaction scheduled for the third quarter of 2023.
Paulo Raimundo stated that the government and the EU will try to “carry out the privatization of Efacec and, amazingly, cancel 113 million euros in debt to the company Mutares”.
“We have lost a company with great potential, we have lost the money that the state has already invested in it and we still have 113 million euros of debt forgiven. Let’s see if at the end of this whole Efacec- not another process where whoever buys the company buys it again with the company’s own money, as we’ve seen with TAP,” he said.
