The president of the republic defended this Sunday in Warsaw that Poland will be a “fundamental protagonist” in the future enlargement of the European Union (EU) and in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war.
“Everything that happens in Europe in terms of expansion happens with the shift from the center to the east and Poland will always be a fundamental player in the reconstruction of Ukraine, as will the weight that a group of countries from the east will have in the functioning of the EU”, supported Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The head of state spoke on arrival in Warsaw for a two-day official visit, which included a meeting with his Polish counterpart, Andrzej Duda, and the Portuguese community.
The President of the Republic recalled that “everything that happens in Ukraine has a relentless repercussion in Poland”, as they are neighboring countries, and that Poland is “the country from which most – millions – of Ukrainians have emigrated because of the war and a significant part may remain”.
