More housing. Vice president of the PSD compares some of Costa’s measures with those of Salazar

António Leitão Amaro, vice president of the PSD, said on Wednesday that some of the solutions proposed by the prime minister for housing are similar to those proposed by Salazar, again vowing they would be withdrawn if the party were to rule.

In a panel at the PSD Summer University – an initiative for training young staff – dedicated to ‘The housing crisis: what answers’ – Leitão Amaro, who coordinated the party’s proposals on housing, was one of the speakers, together with the city councilor from Lisbon Filipa Roseta.

“António Costa meets António Oliveira Salazar, in what? In the rent freeze and restrictions, the unfortunate solution that destroyed the center of Portuguese cities – heritage from the time of the ‘other lady’ – is being revived by António Costa with new rent restrictions “, he accused the ‘vice’ of the PSD.

The Social Democratic leader reiterated his criticism of the government’s “More Housing” package and, at the stage when he responded to the students, absolutely rejected that it could be considered balanced, as defended by the sector’s minister, Marina Gonçalves .

“This minister is part of an increasingly dominant line within the PS, which is anything but balanced. It is only balanced for those who think the next step is communist totalitarianism,” he ironized.

Leitão Amaro classified the government’s housing package as “socialist nonsense” and believed that it “represents a certain vision of society that the PS sometimes tries to disguise.”

“These ‘Pedros Nunos Santos, Galambas’ etc. are not ashamed to say so, while António Costa – fearing the election results – tries not to assume his socialist radicalism, but many of his measures are purely socialist”, he said. , where forced rent or the limitation of rents are mentioned as examples.

The PSD leader believed that the PS package was not only unbalanced but also “does not solve the people’s problems” and contrasted with the measures of the Social Democrats, which were presented and passed in parliament as early as February discussed.

“A social-democratic version that could solve the housing crisis. Unfortunately, António Costa did not accept the challenge of the President of the PSD,” he complained, recalling that on the day the President of the Republic vetoed the package of the government’s measures, Luís Montenegro defended that this was the time for the executive to “shut down and rebuild” and take advantage of the PSD’s contributions.

“It seems they are stubborn, but we tell the Portuguese and the young people that, the day we are in government, this nonsense they are doing will be withdrawn and there is an alternative that we have and that works” , he repeated.
