The President of the Republic was received today by the PSD leader on arrival at the Party’s Summer University, in Castelo de Vide (Portalegre), and with applause from the balcony of the young “students”.
Luís Montenegro, who only planned to close the initiative on Sunday, arrived in Castelo de Vide around 7:05 p.m. today and waited less than ten minutes for Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who will be the speaker at the dinner conference of the currently a political education initiative for young executives.
Questioned by journalists, the PSD leader justified his early presence to hear the reflections that the President of the Republic wants to share with the young students, highlighting the importance of this initiative that the party has been promoting for twenty years.
“The highest magistrate in the country has participated in other models in previous editions. He is not coming in that capacity, but he is still a former chairman of the PSD initiatives,” he said.
Upon arrival, the President of the Republic repeated to journalists the information already passed on that today he will only “speak about Ukraine”, but during the intervention he promised to explain why he chose to personally participate in the PSD Summer University.
“I’ll explain in a minute, they listen to what I say and then read what they want,” he said.
The arrival of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa was met with great applause by the students of the Summer University from the balcony of the hotel, and the president had the opportunity to talk to some of the young participants.
The President of the Republic also had two “neighbors” from Cascais waiting for him, who are in Castelo de Vide for an excursion and learned about the presence of Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa in the village.
Teresa and Madalena asked for – and got – the desired “selfie” with the head of state, who then sat down on the balcony for a few minutes before dinner with Luís Montenegro and other PSD leaders, such as General Secretary Hugo Soares, the “vices” António Leitão Amaro and Margarida Balseiro Lopes, the leader of the JSD, Alexandre Poço, or the director of the Summer University, Carlos Coelho.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa returns today for the tenth time to the PSD Summer University, for the first face-to-face participation in this political training initiative since being elected President of the Republic in 2016.
The former PSD leader (between 1996 and 1999) participated in the 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014 editions. Last year live but remotely via video.
