Mathilde Panot wants to present a bill to repeal the pension reform

The president of the rebel deputies wants to repeal the law on retirement at 64 in the autumn. If a debate in the chamber remains uncertain, the issue could ignite the fire in a flammable atmosphere in the Assembly, after budgetary debates that promise to be under very high tension.

The rebellious France does not give up on this first day of application of the pension reform. Mathilde Panot announces that she wants to present a bill in the autumn to repeal the law that raises the retirement age.

“Retirement at 64 years of age enters into force today. (…) On November 30, the group La France insoumise will put on the agenda of its parliamentary niche the abolition of these 2 stolen years of life. We will never stop the fight! ”, the head of the rebel deputies tweeted this Friday.

So far all attempts by the rebels have failed

Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s movement has not stopped trying in recent months to frustrate this campaign promise by Emmanuel Macron, from an appeal to the Constitutional Council to organize a shared initiative referendum to the presentation of several motions of no confidence.

So far without success, despite ten days of mobilization in the streets. On Wednesday, rebellious France tried its luck again by offering Emmanuel Macron a referendum on raising the retirement age during a meeting between party leaders and the president.

The Head of State has indicated the end of the inadmissibility. For him there is no doubt of “opposing two legitimacies” between that of Parliament and that of the French.

The precedent of the Liot group

For their part, the rebels denounce an “unjust reform” that was not voted on by the National Assembly. In the first reading, the discussions stopped at article 2, while the government obtained 49.3 votes in the second reading, due to lack of a majority to approve its bill.

Since then, no inter-party motion of no confidence has been adopted. As for the Liot group’s bill to repeal the pension reform last June, Yaël Braun-Pivet emptied it of substance before it was finally withdrawn by its authors.

Mathilde Panot now wants to believe that it is possible to put the issue back on the table. With a tool in hand: the parliamentary niche of her group on November 30. This term designates the day that gives control to a group of deputies on the agenda of the National Assembly. Therefore, they are free to present the texts they wish.

A debate in the uncertain hemicycle

But, does this bill to repeal the pension reform really have a chance of being examined in the hemicycle, taking into account the fate of the Liots? Nothing is less secure. It could be blocked as soon as it is examined by the Bourbon Palace office.

However, the sequence could embarrass the government, which is likely to have a very turbulent autumn. The budgetary debates in a complicated economic context for the country’s finances promise to be under very high tension. The 49.3 – without limitation to finance bills – should also multiply in a context of political tensions between Elisabeth Borne and her Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin.

On the government side, we should show the insurance card. The pension reform came into force on Friday with “83% of the application texts” of the measures published, Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt said on France 2 on Friday.
