Referendum, decentralization, purchasing power: Emmanuel Macron’s letter to the presidents of the parties

After the meetings in Saint-Denis last Wednesday, the President of the Republic sent a report and ideas for reflection to the leaders of the political parties.

A week later have received the leaders of political parties at the Saint-Denis Legion of Honor school, Emmanuel Macron He sent them a letter, consulted by BFMTV, in the form of a report, while they were preparing their perspectives, before an upcoming meeting, scheduled for the fall.

About referendums, “no institutional form of response is excluded”, writes the President of the Republic, although it is one of the main demands of the opposition. However, they are not pushing in the same direction: the right and its extreme call for the French to be consulted on immigration, while the left does the same on pensions.

“The debate has not reached a consensus,” said the Head of State, but “I propose to make a proposal on this issue in the coming weeks that will allow us to continue our exchange,” he also wrote.

Noting that “a consensus has emerged to say that many workers today have insufficient life left”, Emmanuel Macron confirms the holding of a social conference.

It will deal with “the issue of branches where remuneration is less than the minimum wage and the evolution of wages and income.” It will be held “in October 2023 between the social partners and will be opened by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Labor according to the conditions agreed with the social partners”, indicates the President of the Republic.
