PS Secretary General and Prime Minister António Costa announced on Wednesday that the government will refund public education fees to students for each year of work in Portugal, and introduce changes to the IRS Jovem.

In a speech of about an hour at the Socialist Academy, the party meeting that started Wednesday evening and runs until Sunday in Évora, António Costa announced several measures, including those aimed at young people, namely that for every year of work in Portugal, the government will have a years of tuition fees paid at a public university in the country, which is equivalent to 697 euros.

According to the general secretary of the PS, this measure will also apply to young people who benefit from School Social Action.

As for masters, António Costa emphasized that the fees vary and for this reason the director has set the return value per year of work in the country at 1,500 euros, for each year of completed masters.

The prime minister of the socialist majority government also announced changes to the rules for accessing the IRS Jovem, starting by saying that “in the first year people work, in the first year people declare their income, the IRS will be zero and there will be a total exemption from IRS so that everyone can start their life at the beginning.”

In the second year, he continued, the beneficiaries of this measure will pay 25% of the IRS they are supposed to pay, “in the third and fourth years they will pay only half” and in the fifth year “they will pay 75 pay % of the tax”. the tax they should pay”.

From January next year, he continued, tickets under the age of 23 will be free for all children and young people up to the age of 23.

In an audience with several young people, the secretary-general of the PS and the head of government announced that young people turning 18 will receive a ‘book voucher’ from next year and that everyone who completes compulsory education will receive ‘a pass that will give them a week in the network of youth hostels and four travel tickets in CP to get to know the diversity and beauty of the country”.

Costa also added that a competition for 1,000 senior technicians with general careers in public administration will open in October, with the entry-level position being €1,330, adding that it will be “open every month from October until the end of the year.” legislature” new competition will be opened for senior technicians.
