Voters in Madeira can start voting today for the regional parliamentary elections on September 24, in accordance with the conditions set out in the law, namely for professional or health reasons.

“Voters who are hospitalized or suspected of being hospitalized due to illness and cannot go to the polling station” can also anticipate their right to vote, as can those who are “imprisoned and deprived of their political rights.”

The measure also includes representatives of national teams, organized by sports federations with the status of public sports company, who travel abroad for sports competitions on election day, and higher education students enrolled in the region and on the continent or in the region to study. Voters displaced abroad can also vote in advance, such as military personnel, militarized agents and civilians involved in peacekeeping, technical-military cooperation or similar operations, and doctors, nurses and other civilians involved in humanitarian missions , which are recognized as such by the Ministry of Affairs. Early voting can take place at the municipal council of the municipality where the voter is registered, or at diplomatic and consular representations or Portuguese institutions designated by the Ministry of the Interior abroad.

There are 13 candidates vying for the Madeira legislature, who will compete for 47 seats in the regional parliament, in one constituency.
