General policy speech: Laurent Wauquiez announces that his group “will not censure” the Lecornu government

The president of the Republican Right group of deputies, Laurent Wauquiez, spoke this Tuesday, October 14, in the National Assembly after Sébastien Lecornu’s general policy speech. He announced that his group will not censure the government.

Laurent Wauquiez indicated this Tuesday, October 14, before the National Assembly that the elected officials of his group “will not censure a government a priori.”

The head of the LR elected representatives group spoke after the Prime Minister’s general policy speech.

“Our priority is that France is not blocked. And we are committed, aware of the commitments necessary for essential laws to be adopted. We have defined this position collectively with our deputies and our senators,” he explained.

“Depriving France of a budget means worsening the deficit”

The former president of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region insisted on the political stability necessary for the country to vote on a budget. “We will not censure a government a priori and we will not be part of those who will overthrow prime ministers. This position of the deputies of the Republican right has not changed. France needs a minimum of stability. France needs a government. France needs a budget,” added Laurent Wauquiez.

“Depriving France of a budget is aggravating the already larger deficit of the euro zone. Depriving France of a budget is putting itself in the hands of creditors. Depriving France of a budget is the poison of uncertainty,” insisted the president of the right-wing Republican deputies.

This speech occurs in a context of tensions within LR. Six members of the right-wing party joined the Lecornu II government this Sunday, against the decision of Bruno Retailleau, before being immediately excluded.

A third of right-wing elected officials voted last September against confidence in François Bayrou.

I regret the suspension of the pension reform

The president of the LR deputies, Laurent Wauquiez, regretted in his speech that “all the measures demanded” by the socialists to suspend the pension reform “had been adopted by the Prime Minister.”

The right limited itself to paying lip service to the pension reform in 2023. Laurent Wauquiez was particularly discreet at that time.

“Do we want to destroy everything or make an effort?” asks the head of LR’s elected officials, remembering that “there is only one year left” until the start of the next presidential campaign.
