IL tells Santos Silva on April 25 that it does not want Lula, Putin’s ally

Last Friday, the Liberal Initiative opposed the possible presence of Brazil’s president at the next formal session on April 25, with the parliament speaker emphasizing Portugal’s institutional proximity to that country.

Just before parliamentary work began on the first day of the new legislature, the chairman of the Liberal Initiative, Rui Rocha, asked to take the floor to talk about “the implementation of the work”.

“In recent days, Lula da Silva has made a series of statements regarding Vladimir Putin’s accession [Presidente da Federação Russa] on Brazilian territory and declared that there would be no arrest of Putin. This is the moment when it becomes known that there is an international mandate from the International Criminal Court to detain Vladimir Putin following investigations into war crimes, crimes against humanity and even genocide.”said Rui Rocha.

The deputy recalled the presence of Lula da Silva in the Assembly of the Republic during the welcome ceremony held just before the solemn session, which marked the 49th anniversary since April 25, 1974.

“If, as I suspect there are, there are plans to bring Lula da Silva to the Portuguese Parliament for the celebration of [50.º] On the anniversary of April 25, it is good to know that this would be a new humiliation and that IL will be at the forefront of the opposition to these intentions,” he stated, accusing Lula da Silva of “a clear to be an ally of Vladimir Putin. “.

Regarding the celebration of the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974, next year, the President of the Assembly of the Republic only replied: “Your party [IL] is represented in the Organizing Committee which, under my chairmanship, is responsible for its preparation and in due course we will also submit proposals to the Conference of Leaders”.

Augusto Santos Silva began by recalling that “the planning of sessions, whether normal plenary sessions or special welcome sessions, is a decision of the Speaker of Parliament, always prior to consultation with the Conference of Leaders.”

In the specific case of the solemn welcome session that was held – “not for Mr. Lula da Silva but for the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Lula da Silva,” the Speaker of Parliament emphasized – this was “the subject of analysis at a leaders’ conference” and reached an agreement that “mobilized almost all parliamentary groups”.

Santos Silva stressed that the welcome sessions “should not be confused with ideological, political affinities or convergence of positions on all issues”, predicting that “there will certainly be more welcome sessions for heads of state” from countries close to Portugal. .

“Does this mean that we agree with all the opinions of these heads of state? No, whether it is the King of Spain, the President of France, Brazil, Angola or anyone else. It means that these policy differences prevent us from treating these countries and heads of state with the respect, affection and even, in our case, love that history and the present warrant? No, it does not prevent this,” he concluded.

Before Rui Rocha’s intervention, the speaker of parliament wished the deputies present “good luck” at the start of the new parliamentary term.
