Ventura says it will propose support of 125 euros “every month” from 2023

In a press conference at the Assembly of the Republic, André Ventura said that Chega is proposing, in the context of the discussion of the proposed state budget for 2023, to exempt from tax the aid of €125 to be allocated this month.

To a journalist’s request for clarification, as the Treasury Department had already announced that the aid would not be taxed, Ventura replied: “Since we propose that these 125 euros are not limited to one month, but extended to the whole of next year, we propose that, if the government accepts – we still do not know whether it will or not, there have been conflicting signals – keep the non-load of this value.”

Chega’s president added that the party will table a proposal to amend the state’s 2023 budget (OE2023), which will not be known until Monday, so that holiday and Christmas subsidies are tax-exempt, as well as an update on levels of the IRS that are not a “major change”, because of the implications it would have on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Ventura did not propose to update the IRS levels, defending that “there is fiscal neutrality” and that next year’s salary increases “will not be swallowed up by the tax burden”.

The two proposals, he continued, will allow for a “more direct allocation of money to families” as Christmas and holiday grants are not taxed, while updating the scales “will have a lower budgetary impact than a total reform.” ‘, according to the leader of Chega, appears to be ‘more direct in terms of income allocation’.

However, he warned that the executive led by the socialist António Costa “must make a major investment in fiscal updating”.

Chega will also submit a proposal to reduce the amount of tolls payable, especially in the Algarve, and another proposal for VAT exemption for essential goods, to mitigate the effects of inflation.
