PSD wants to hear from former Santa Casa Ombudsman and current leaders about the current situation

This Thursday, the PSD requested a parliamentary hearing of the previous ombudsman Edmundo Martinho and directors of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML) to clarify “the facts and events that gave rise to the current problematic situation of the SCML” .

In a request addressed to the chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Labor and Social Security, Isabel Meireles, to which Lusa had access, the PSD faction states that, according to the latest report and accounts (from 2020) of the SCML, “the number managers has grown by 50% in just six years.”

“The situation contrasts with what is now known: 72.1 million euros in losses in 2020 and 2021 and announcements of cost rationalization,” mention the Social Democratic deputies, who request this “urgently” and prior to the hearings with the minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, and the current SCML Ombudsman, Ana Jorge (already approved), the hearing of the former Ombudsman Edmundo Martinho, the former Deputy Ombudsman João Pedro Correia and the former administrator Filipa Klut.

In the request, the PSD delegates point out that internal recruitment processes have been the target of legal action, with several searches from SCML, according to the media, which also states that “internally, director service commissions have been suspended and are under review”.

In this context, they indicate that a journalistic report this week reported that, in the context of the judicial investigation entitled ‘Perfect Storm’, there are suspicious connections and recruitments of former directors of the previous management of the institution.

PSD delegates note that the current government, which only took office in May, has made public that “it has already begun the investigation and analysis of the mentioned processes to assess the contours of their progress,” and Ana’s team Jorge doesn’t even leave that out. some situations may have legal implications.

PSD delegates recall that SCML’s financial situation “has a direct impact on the performance of several ministries, given the contribution of their revenues to their financing.”

On the other hand – they add – the The institution itself plays a role in the social field of “great relevance”, and to this role it plays we must add the fact that the Ministry of Labor and Social Security is the main beneficiary of the net revenues from social games.

“Now, due to its timeliness and relevance, it is important to publicly clarify this situation in order to protect the institutions and the Portuguese beneficiaries of the assets and income from SCML’s social games,” the Social Democratic deputies justify.
