Montenegro: “No, it’s not.” Excludes the “political management agreement”

The chairman of the PSD today stated that “no, it is not” and excluded the Chega party from any “political governance agreement” it may have to conclude in the future, saying that “it is not worth to further fuel this issue.”

During a press conference at the party’s national headquarters, at the end of meetings with unions and associations in the field of education, Luís Montenegro was asked about the statement he made on Madeira’s election night, in which he said that there was no government solution in the region, nor on the mainland with this party.

“The same means that we are not going to govern Madeira or the country with the support of Chega, because we do not need it”Luís Montenegro emphasized on Sunday.

When challenged on Wednesday to clarify what will happen if the party led by André Ventura is needed after the next parliamentary elections, he replied: “It’s very simple, it’s not.”

‘I will never conclude a political management agreement with Chega’he said, as it was clear since the PSD congress, in the summer of 2022.

‘I know there is a lot of theorizing about the formula I chose to express my position – it was always the same, perhaps in different ways. The time has come when it is not worth dwelling on this subject further: no, it is not”he reinforced.

“Comfortable” with approval in Madeira

The PSD president also said he was “completely comfortable” with the parliamentary agreement reached between PSD-Madeira and PAN, saying this understanding does not violate any “value or principle” of the Social Democrats.

Luís Montenegro was asked about the parliamentary influence agreement signed in Madeira and emphasized that the autonomy of the autonomous regions is enshrined in the constitution, in the political-administrative statute and even in the party statutes.

“The national leader of the PSD is fully comfortable with a solution that allows conditions for governance in Madeira. If the issue ever arises in the context of parliamentary elections, we will assume the responsibilities that we have to shoulder.” he said.

Despite emphasizing that this agreement was signed between the PSD-Madeira and the PAN, Montenegro defended that “it does not conflict with any value or principle of the PSD”, nor with the party’s support to peasants, “the rural world and its values”. .

The PSD leader refused that this agreement means burning bridges to the right and, when asked about the role of IL, he was of the opinion that “the door is not closed” for that party in Madeira, after the Liberals made themselves available shown for a dialogue “if that is the case, a budget by budget”.

“The relationship between the two political forces in a national context does not have to be the relationship in a regional context; things are different,” he said.

Montenegro said he followed the evolution of the process in Madeira “with all the attention” and left with conviction.

“It will be very clear that there are conditions for a stable government and legislature,” he said.

The PSD leader was also questioned about the statements of the former president of the regional government of Madeira, Alberto João Jardim, who described him as “very new” in his reactions to the election results.

“On Dr.’s side. Alberto João Jardim maybe, because he is a very veteran,” he joked, saying that he was convinced that Madeira’s historic leader will join him in his goal to transform the country, even though they may not agree “on one point”. occasion or another”.

The Somos Madeira coalition (PSD/CDS-PP) won the regional parliamentary elections in Madeira on Sunday, but failed to obtain an absolute majority with one deputy, which requires it to win 24 of the 47 seats in the parliament of the archipelago.

The elected PAN deputy, Mónica Freitas, announced on Tuesday that she has signed a four-year parliamentary advocacy agreement with the PSD/CDS-PP coalition, allowing an absolute majority in the hemisphere, which was confirmed shortly afterwards by the President of the USA the PSD/Madeira and the regional government, Miguel Albuquerque.
