The president of the PSD/Madeira and the regional government, Miguel Albuquerque, explained that he had chosen the PAN because of an agreement that allows an absolute majority in the regional parliament due to its identification with some “fundamental and priority issues” of the program of the party.
“Because it is a party that aligns itself with a number of fundamental and priority issues: the conservation of ecosystems, the issue of climate transition, the need to preserve biodiversity, the issue of providing a sustainable future for our society”, started by asking the Leader of Madeira in an interview with the program “Grande Entrevista” on RTP3, Wednesday evening.
Albuquerque considered this choice of the PAN as “natural”, pointing out that Madeira is a region dedicated to environmental issues.
The Governor of Madeira has pointed this out some of the issues raised by PAN (People-Animals-Nature) “were already” in the PSD programarguing that “they should be put on the agenda” because they are part of the political agenda, although they do not “agree with all of them”
Asked about the PAN’s ten demands, the president, re-elected on Sunday for a third term, emphasized the following: ‘A government with a parliamentary agreement for four years is a government that must function with greater dialogue capacity and with greater interaction between political forces,” stressing that “there was no disagreement” with the CDS, the coalition partner with whom he governed for the past four years.
“As far as I’m concerned it will continue [o acordo com o PAN celebrado par os próximos quatro anos]”, he stated, defending the importance of “the existence of permanent understanding and dialogue”, including in the area of the regional budget and the program of the executive, between the parties, issues that are “black and white ” in the agreement that was drawn up.
Regarding the contacts with the Liberal Initiative (IL), the regional leader said that “it was never his option” and “it was not a matter of personality”.
Quanto ao seu futuro político, enfatizou : “Nunca digo que é o último [mandato] to prevent problems”emphasizing that “political careers are created by opportunity and ‘timing'”.
“I have never put anything aside, and I don’t do that,” he emphasizes.
The PSD/CDS-PP coalition was led by Miguel Albuquerque, who ran again for a third term as president of the regional government of Madeira. On Sunday he won the regional legislature, but fell one deputy short of an absolute majority as announced. On Tuesday, a parliamentary advocacy agreement was reached with the PAN, which was given a mandate.
In Sunday’s elections, the PSD/CDS-PP coalition elected 23 deputies, PS 11, JPP five and Chega four, while the CDU (PCP/PEV), BE, PAN and IL each elected one deputy.
