“Every day counts and every lesson counts.” Faced with the avalanche of criticism of the reform of the baccalaureate exam, Emmanuel Macron’s campaign promise in 2017, the Ministry of National Education modified the 2024 baccalaureate calendar and announced this Thursday that it will begin on June 18.
“This summer we decided to reposition the high school exams from March to June,” said Gabriel Attal on TF1, whose “ambition for the school is clear: raise the level.”
He justified: “For years – the parents of the students who observe us know this – we have seen high school students leaving the classrooms in June and last year it was worse starting in March or April.”
The celebration in March of the baccalaureate specialty tests, implemented for the first time in 2023, had sparked controversy. This schedule had been accused of causing absenteeism and demotivation among certain students in the last term.
The “reconquest of the month of June”
In detail, “the philosophy tests are set for Tuesday, June 18, 2024 in the morning, the specialty written tests are set for Wednesday, June 19, Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21, 2024, and the grand oral from Monday, June 24 and no later than July 3.” , 2024.
The French written tests planned for first grade classes will take place on Friday, June 14, 2024 in the morning. The dates of the French oral exam must be set by the academies, between June 24 and July 5, 2024.
“We affirm a clear option: the reconquest of the month of June,” proclaimed the minister.
To do this, second-year students, that is, about 550,000 high school students, will carry out internships during the last two weeks of June. “We must improve our orientation policy,” declared Gabriel Attal, recalling that the second is “a kind of see-saw.”
But, aware of the difficulty of parents and establishments in finding internship places for third and second year students, the tenant of Rue de Grenelle assured that there would be “a national mobilization to find internship places.”
For their part, third-year high school students will take the written university certificate exams on July 1 and 2, 2024, and “not in June as usual”, which will allow high school students to remain in class.” until the last days of June.”
