Some 730,000 National Education agents will receive, at the same time as their October salary, an “exceptional purchasing power bonus”, of 380 euros for teachers and 500 euros for the rest of the agents, Minister Gabriel announced on Thursday.
“In October, in the October payroll, we will pay an exceptional purchasing power bonus to 730,000 ministry agents, that is, more than one in two,” said the minister on the set of TF1’s JT.
In detail, “500,000 teachers (…) will receive an average of 380 euros” and “230,000 other staff members”, in particular those who accompany students with disabilities (AESH), will receive an average of 500 euros, he specified.
Asked about a gesture in favor of the purchasing power of teachers in the face of inflation, Gabriel Attal first stressed that “in this new school year we reflect a very strong commitment from the President of the Republic, it is the unprecedented revaluation of our teachers.” .
“Each teacher earns this school year between 125 and 250 euros net more than the previous year,” he continued, speaking of a “measure of justice.”
Unions demand more
In the general context of inflation, the minister added, “it is difficult, especially for those who have low salaries in my ministry” and “this is the reason” why this exceptional bonus will be paid.
To benefit from it, it is necessary to have received less than 39,000 euros gross between July 2022 and June 2023, or less than 2,600 euros net per month (excluding overtime), the minister reported.
“The salary file cannot be closed with a plus,” she warned.
A “decoy” reported
Face à la forte inflation, which will be renewed after 2022 with the unpublished levels after the années 1980, the government will announce ahead of the first exception of 300 to 800 euros bruts will be seen by public agents earning money from 3250 euros bruts per month.
In September, the Minister of the Public Service, Stanislas Guerini, specified that this bonus, mentioned in June, would finally be paid in October.
While state and hospital officials will automatically receive this bonus starting this fall, its payment is optional in the communities, which has led unions representing the local public service to speak of a “decoy.”
