A resounding return, after two years of media absence. In Valence, before nearly 500 young activists, Laurent Wauquiez took the first step this Sunday towards his candidacy for the Elysée, promising to lead the right towards “a great collective success” in 2027.
“We have a long road ahead and an immense challenge to overcome,” launched the president of Les Républicains of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region during this national outing. “We must reinvent ourselves, dare to say what blocks and harms our nation. Take the time to listen to the aspirations of the French. Turn the tables. Make no mistake, I will dedicate all my energy to this, to lead you once again towards great collective success,” he explained.
“I’m ready for it.”
Although his silence has upset more than one in his party, Laurent Wauquiez admits to having “chosen a commitment on the ground”, where he works to “give clear values.”
“I know the price to pay for all this. I have measured the cost of serenity and determination to unblock the French Republic. And today I am prepared,” he assured.
“And only then can everything be possible again,” added Laurent Wauquiez, adopting Nicolas Sarkozy’s campaign slogan for the 2007 presidential elections, the last victory of the right in the race for Elysium. “If we prepare for these elections like the others, we will lose them like the others. And I reject this inevitability,” he also warned.
“We will have to get France out of this disastrous confrontation between the elite bloc and the popular bloc. The French are tired of these tensions and I will need your help to achieve this,” he again told his followers.
If during his speech, Laurent Wauquiez did not explicitly announce his candidacy, Éric Ciotti seemed to support him in victory on social media in 2027!
Immigration warning
The president of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes was also in the same line as the head of the party, Éric Ciotti, refusing to overthrow the government on budget matters. “In our family, we do not present motions of no confidence for the simple pleasure of overthrowing a government, risking adding chaos to disorder,” he declared.
On the other hand, he issued a warning to the executive about the immigration bill. “If a text clashes directly with what for us represents the heart of the national interest and raises new calls for even greater immigration, then our duty would be to oppose it with all our strength and all institutional means,” he warned.
