March of October 16: Bompard assures that the rebels are “supporters of non-violent action”

After Jean-Luc Mélenchon drew criticism, even within the Nupes, by comparing the march against expensive life to the French Revolution, Manuel Bompard defended him for wanting to initiate violent action.

“We have always been supporters of nonviolent action.” Manuel Bompard defended Jean-Luc Mélenchon on BFMTV-RMC on Monday, after the leader of La France insoumise (LFI) compared the march to the high cost of living and the French Revolution.

A “determined but pacifist” march

This demonstration, organized by the different colors of the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and scheduled for Sunday, October 16, will be “decisive but pacifist and non-violent”, assured the rebel deputy from Bouches-du-Rhône.

“On October 5-6, 1789, women marched on Versailles against the cost of living. They forcibly brought the King, Queen and Dauphin to Paris under popular control. Make it better on October 16,” Jean-Marie tweeted. Luc Mélenchon on Thursday. latter, causing controversy, even among his Nupes allies.

“There is no longer a king or queen. We will have neither pikes nor gallows,” responded Olivier Faure, first secretary of the Socialist Party (PS). And to add:

“Our mobilization will be nonviolent and its strength is its message: justice against social disorder.”

“We will stop celebrating on July 14”

“Olivier Faure is planning to participate in this demonstration,” answered Manuel Bompard to underline the convergences between socialists and rebels. “For the rest, I am honored to refer to the French Revolution,” greeted the rebel strategist.

“And if you want now that we no longer celebrate the moments [où il y a eu] violence, we will stop celebrating on July 14, for example, the taking of the Bastille”, he added.

Olivier Véran had estimated on BFMTV on Friday that Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s comments were a “covert call for social violence”. “Is ‘doing better’ or ‘doing worse’ in this case what you mean?” the government spokesman tried to question.

Manuel Bompard’s scathing response on Monday: “Frankly, if there is something that is social violence in this country, it is the situation that we know, the policy that the government in which Olivier Véran participates has put in place for several years.” “.
