Last Friday, Parliament broadly approved the IL bill to abolish the mandatory use of the blue badge by electric vehicles, preserving this display for those who want to use parking spaces for these cars.
This liberal bill that “simplifies and eliminates the obligation of the blue badge for the movement of electric vehicles on public roads” was approved thanks to the abstention of the PS and the PCP and the other parties voted in favor (the PAN was not present due to are at a European political event).
In the explanatory memorandum, IL states that according to the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT), “the absence of the identification badge on an electric car will not lead to fines for the driver, but is only necessary for ‘access to benefits related to the use of an electric car, such as the use of charging stations and parking spaces reserved for electric cars’.
However, according to liberals, the current law goes beyond these purposes and requires the placement of the sign merely for circulation on a public road or the like.
“It does not seem appropriate or reasonable for the State to impose the obligation of an identification badge, under penalty of a fine, in accordance with current law,” the Liberals justify.
According to IL, it is “urgent to change the law to limit the badge requirement to parking situations reserved for electric cars”.
The proposed amendment, which now goes to the specialty, aims to change the legal regime for electric mobility in the article referring to electric vehicles.
“Electric vehicles must, in order to use the parking spaces reserved for electric vehicles, display the identification badge that appears in Annex I to this legislative decree and which forms an integral part of it,” the proposal reads.
