Montenegro justifies health problems with ‘incompetence’ of the PS

The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, defended this Saturday that users are not the problem of the current situation in hospital emergencies, but rather “the incompetence” of socialist governments.

“The Prime Minister thinks that the problem with emergencies lies with the users. Tomorrow he may say that the problem with schools lies with the students,” the Social Democratic leader wrote in a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Addressing António Costa, Luís Montenegro argued that “the problem is the PS governments and the incompetence of the Socialist Party.”

The Prime Minister met on Friday with the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (SNS), the Minister and the Secretaries of State for Health, a day after the statutes of this body, which had been in office for a year, were published and when the government and State Secretaries of Health and medical unions have not yet reached an agreement on salary increases.

This meeting, which took place in Porto, also took place when there were restrictions in the emergency services of several SNS hospitals due to the refusal of more than 2,000 doctors to work overtime, in addition to the mandatory 150 hours.

Speaking to journalists at the end, the Prime Minister stated that from January the SNS will have “put the puzzle pieces together correctly”, after the President of the Republic days earlier insisted on the need to define the new definition. organic framework, under penalty of “bursting pieces of the puzzle”.

António Costa indicated that he was referring to the three major reforms of the SNS that will come into force next year, namely the organization of the country into local health units, the generalization of the transition of family health units to model B and the reorganization of emergency services concern, stressing that this does not mean that Portugal will immediately become a “wonderland”.

The head of government also pointed out that people should change their habits, such as calling Linha Saúde 24 when they are sick, instead of “running to the hospital.”

Costa highlighted this issue several times, emphasizing that by going to the emergency room without necessity, people are not only doing something that is useless to them, but also harming others who actually need to be treated in the emergency room. .
