“It has not been emphatic enough to point out the mistake of the Portuguese government in the PRR”

The President of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, criticized this Thursday that the President of the European Commission, for her party colleague, in the European political family, has not spoken “a more demanding word to the Portuguese Government”, regarding the plans for the implementation of the PRR.

Speaking in Brussels, on the sidelines of the PPE summit, Luís Montenegro lamented what he believes is a missed opportunity for Portugal to contribute to the relaunch of the European economy.

Montenegro blames the policies of António Costa’s government, saying Portugal should be at the forefront of the process of restarting the European economy. But also “the almost anecdotal way in which the Portuguese Prime Minister refers to these matters, claiming this commitment in Europe, but doing the opposite in Portugal”.

“Doctor António Costa comes to Europe and says and demands something from our European partners that he does not do in Portugal,” said Luís Montenegro. “We are using the largest financing instrument we have had in our history, since we joined the European Union, the PRR, to fill the gaps in public investment from the last eight years of socialist governance,” he criticized.

During his speech at the entrance to the summit of the European People’s Party, which usually precedes European summits, Luís Montenegro did not spare any criticism of Ursula Von der Leyen, because of the praise that her colleague in the European political family has expressed for the Portuguese plan for PRR funds.

“It has not been emphatic enough to point out the flaw in the strategy followed by the Portuguese Government, regardless of the respect that the Commission must have for the governmental strategy of each Member State, but I have no problem in assuming that the European Commission should have a say in greater demands on the Portuguese government,” Montenegro said.

According to the president of the PSD, Ursula von der Leyen “should encourage the Portuguese government to provide the Portuguese economy with conditions so that it can generate greater economic growth, greater economic growth, which in turn is an essential pillar of the balance of public finances. “.
