This morning, the PS Secretary General asked socialist leaders to focus on responding to people’s problems and not to the media agenda, and not to fall into the trap of criticizing the Public Prosecution Service.
These messages, according to socialist sources, were relayed by António Costa during the last intervention of the meeting of the PS National Political Commission, which lasted about four and a half hours and ended in the early morning hours, without a statement of conclusions. .
After several members of the PS Political Committee criticized the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the process that led to the resignation of António Costa from his role as prime minister, former minister Eduardo Cabrita left a warning on Tuesday, saying he had already had the prospect of early legislative measures. elections scheduled for March 10.
“The opponent of the PS is the right. It is not the legal system,” said the former minister – an idea already defended by socialist MEP Pedro Silva Pereira.
In the last intervention, António Costa mainly tried to advise the future leadership of the PS not to focus on reactions to the media agenda, but rather on reactions to people’s problems, arguing that this was the line of success in the last parliamentary elections on March 30, 2022.
And he even spoke about the trap that could be created if the PS, because of the legal procedure involved, publicly criticized the Public Prosecution Service.
The Socialists leader said he still does not know whether the process he is involved in will “last three months or three years”.
“But I will take care of it,” he declared, quoted by members of the PS National Political Commission, in a message for the party’s future direction.
António Costa defended the legacy of the PS over the past eight years of government and believed that from the first day his party won an absolute majority in the last parliamentary elections, the political right only thought about the dissolution of parliament.
Within two weeks, the PS National Committee should schedule the congress on January 6 and 7 and direct elections for the post of Socialist Secretary General on December 15 and 16. Elections in which at least the current Minister of the Interior, José Luís Carneiro, and the former minister and current Socialist deputy Pedro Nuno Santos will participate.
