The PS continues with the abolition of the measure to increase the Single Circulation Tax (IUC), which was included by the government in the 2024 budget, due to its multi-year nature in a political context in which early parliamentary elections are planned.
This was one of the reasons presented on Wednesday by the leader of the Socialist Bank, Eurico Brilhante Dias, at a press conference on the proposals of the PS parliamentary group for changes to the state budget for 2024, a document for which a final global vote is planned stands. the next day 29.

In the presence of journalists, the leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group downplayed the impact on the budget balance due to the suppression of the IUC increase in the 2024 budget, as well as the procedural issue related to the fact that other banks presented proposals with a similar goal to that of the socialists. At this point, he claimed that the PS proposal is more complete, as it aims to eliminate the increase in the IUC and also its “update”.
On Tuesday, the last day of the deadline for submitting proposed amendments to the budget, the PS submitted one to abolish the increase in the IUC for vehicles from 2007 and previous years, arguing that it “a matter of social justice and protection of citizens with greater economic vulnerability”.
Socialists argue that in the proposal “The light vehicle is still in many cases the main way to travel to work or to the nearest public transport, especially outside the country’s major cities and in medium and low density areas, where public transport is limited and insufficient for daily mobility needs”.
