“I have just finished talking about the social state, about the importance of social policy and, of course, about the fact that the candidacy currently led by Pedro Nuno Santos represents, in fact, this strengthening of the social state,” the minister said. to journalists, in Guimarães, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Strategic Plan for the Rehabilitation of the Heritage of the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation.
The socialist activist emphasized that the PS “is a very united party, which has the right ideological foundations that are common to all candidacies and to all who speak on behalf of the Socialist Party.”
‘But of course I have a special connotation for a project that focuses on the social state, that focuses on people, that focuses on families, and that is the implementation of a fundamental policy, which in fact is also defined in the policy measures those the three identified priorities, of which housing is one, but also the issue of employment and wages and the issue of territorial cohesion,” said Marina Gonçalves.
In this sense, he explained that the candidacy of Pedro Nuno Santos for the position of Secretary General of the PS will receive his support “precisely because it does justice to whatever policy” the government is developing.
“The policy of strengthening the social state, which for me is fundamental for the development of the country,” the Minister of Housing emphasized.
The National PS Commission, scheduled for Parque das Nações in Lisbon, from 10am on Saturday, should formalize the decisions to hold the congress on January 6 and 7 and the direct elections for the post of Socialist Secretary on December 15 and 16. .
In addition to the candidacy of the former Minister of Infrastructure and the current Socialist deputy Pedro Nuno Santos, and the former Deputy Secretary General of the PS and Minister of the Interior, José Luís Carneiro, a third candidacy has been submitted today by the Socialist leader Daniel Adrião. .
Speaking to Lusa, Daniel Adrião said that he will run again for the position of general secretary of the PS, claiming that his internal sensitivity is not reflected in any of the candidates already on the ground.
Daniel Adrião will announce on Saturday during the meeting of the National PS Commission that he is running again for the leadership of the Socialists, having already done so in 2016, 2018 and 2021, always against the current general secretary, António Costa. .
Augusto Santos Silva, PS deputy and current President of the Assembly of the Republic, has already expressed his support for Carneiro, as has the Minister of Finance, Fernando Medina.
In turn, the candidacy of former minister Pedro Nuno Santos has declared that it has the support of the majority of federation presidents – including larger ones such as Porto, Lisbon and Braga – and of figures such as historical socialist and State Council member Manuel Alegre.
