MEP and Social Democratic Vice President Paulo Rangel said this Saturday, in an intervention much welcomed by the participants of the 41st Congress of the PSD, that “we must take responsibility for the fact that we will have to save this country from swamp that the majority of the PS’s absolute strength led him”.

Paulo Rangel said that, “without arrogance but with ambition for the country”, a future executive led by Luís Montenegro will have the mission to “restore the credibility of Portugal’s institutions and prestige outside the country”.

Taking advantage of the ‘fortunate coincidence’ of the 41st PSD Congress, which took place on the 48th anniversary of the date marking the end of the revolutionary process, the MEP reinforced the message that only his party can prevent the governance cycle of the PS comes to an end. end with the parliamentary elections on March 10, 2024.

“The crossroads where the country finds itself is worthy of November 25,” said Paulo Rangel, arguing that his party is ready to offer the Portuguese a clear alternative with a leader and a quality team, “with people who have been in other parties. and who never had a party.”

Rangel praised the proposals of the National Political Committee to which he belongs, especially in the areas of housing, health care, education and taxes, “big flags of an opposition party that wanted to show itself as an alternative.”

Also emphasized by the Social Democratic Vice President were Luís Montenegro’s “capacity for sacrifice” and “sense of state”, as he was elected to the leadership when he faced the prospect of having to struggle against an absolute government for four and a half years . majority.

Criticism of the impact on Portugal’s image of decisions by the former Minister of Infrastructure Pedro Nuno Santos taken via WhatsApp at TAP, where 3,200 million euros in Portuguese taxes were levied, and also of the retention of João Galamba at the head of the same ministry , even after the President of the Republic asked the Prime Minister to dismiss him.
