“The PSD’s proposal on pensions lasted less than two days. And Luís Montenegro said it was ‘without tricks’!”the former Minister of Infrastructure and candidate for leader of the PS responded on his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
Pedro Nuno Santos again defended that “the PSD and its proposals have no credibility”.
The PSD proposal on pensions did not last two days. And Luís Montenegro said he was “without tricks”!
As I had the opportunity to say on Sunday, the PSD and its proposals are not credible. https://t.co/fADHnT84fk pic.twitter.com/fROfrY0FkE

The controversy surrounding the PSD’s proposal to increase pensions started shortly after Social Democratic leader Luís Montenegro’s latest intervention at the congress that took place in Almada on Saturday.
“We will, in accordance with the law, increase pensions in general, but we will also, gradually and until the end of the legislature, set the reference for the solidarity allowance for the elderly at 820 euros. This translates into the following: In 2028, the guaranteed minimum income for Portuguese pensioners will be 820 euros,” Montenegro defended in its intervention in Almada.
Today, the Social Democratic parliamentary leader, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, explained in statements to the TSF that the proposed increase only affects the Solidarity Supplement for Older Persons and not all pensions.
The Solidarity Supplement for the Elderly is a monetary support paid monthly to elderly people with few resources, over the age of 66 years and four months and living in Portugal.
The current value is a maximum of 488.22 euros per month and the criteria that, according to information from Social Security, count for the assessment of the social security of the elderly person are the income of the supplement applicant, as well as ‘the income of the person with whom you are married for more than two years or actually living in a union” or even “the income of the children to calculate the applicant’s family solidarity component”.
