Death of Thomas: Panot welcomes the dissolution of small far-right groups proposed by Darmanin

The number one of La Francia insumisa in the National Assembly was pleased that the Government “faced” the issue of the extreme right, two days after the demonstrations in several cities in France linked to the death of young Thomas.

Quite strange support. The president of the rebel deputies welcomed the dissolution of three small far-right groups proposed this Tuesday by Gérald Darmanin, two days after clashes directly related to the death of Thomas in Crépol.

“It is important that the Government finally addresses head-on the issue of small far-right groups,” explained Mathilde Panot this Tuesday during a press conference at the National Assembly.

Far-right demonstrations in several cities

Already in 2019, the rebel parliamentary group had requested, without success, a commission of inquiry into this phenomenon. The Minister of the Interior spoke on France Inter of his desire to “propose the end of several small groups”, citing in particular “the Martel division”, which has been in the Government’s sights for several months.

In recent days, several demonstrations have been organized at the initiative of small far-right groups, including a Saturday in Romans-sur-Isèrein Drôme, calling for “justice” for the teenager murdered with a knife during a village festival on November 18.

Attempted “religious wars”

Six people present at this far-right meeting were sentenced to between six and ten months in prison for “participation in a group formed with a view to preparing violence”, “degradation” or even “violence” against a police officer.

Three demonstrations were held this Monday in Lyon, Grenoble and Aix-en-Provence. Others are planned this week in Lille and Bordeaux, while a “call to mobilize before all city councils in France” has also been launched.

Mathilde Panot also continued in Olivier Véran’s team. The government spokesman said he feared “The risk of a change in our society.if we are not up to the task” during a visit to Crépol on Monday.

“We share this observation. There are forces in this country that try at all costs to make France a place where there are religious wars,” analyzed the head of the rebel deputies.

“France has already experienced three centuries of religious war and we will not let fascists and the extreme right who want to try it return to it,” added the elected representative of Val-de-Marne.

MEPs will pay tribute to Thomas this Tuesday during a minute’s silence before topical questions to the Government.
