Case of the twins. PSD says it is “good manners” if everyone is scrutinized

The PSD considered this Wednesday as “good form” to scrutinize everyone in the case of the twins being treated in Portugal, including political decision-makers such as former Foreign Minister Lacerda Sales.

At a press conference on the state of health, PSD Vice President Miguel Pinto Luz was asked about the investigation that the Medical Association had opened against the former Secretary of State for Health.

“It’s a good idea to clarify everything that happened down to the smallest detail. All investigations that are opened, all transparency regarding this process is essential, whether it concerns political decision-makers, institutions or technicians of the National Health Service,” he replied.

For the social democratic leader, everyone must be scrutinized and everything must be “brought down to the smallest detail, because in a democracy it is healthy for this to be the case.”

The president of the Order of Physicians (OM), Carlos Cortes, told Lusa on Tuesday that he has asked the Disciplinary Board of the Southern Region of the Order of Physicians to evaluate the behavior of the doctors involved in the case of the Portuguese-Brazilian twin. to understand whether there is a disciplinary matter in which you can intervene.

In his response, António Lacerda Sales considered the investigation opened by the Medical Association into the case as an “unqualified interference in the activities of a sovereign body”.

Speaking to Rádio Renascença (RR), the doctor and former government official added that he had not scheduled an appointment with the National Health Service (SNS) for the Portuguese-Brazilian twins, who were treated at Santa Maria Hospital with an innovative drug worth four million euros.

Lacerda Sales assured that he had “never spoken about the matter” with the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, nor with the Prime Minister, António Costa, while at the same time reiterating that he did not remember and was waiting for documentation to comment on a meeting that will take place with Nuno Rebelo de Sousa, son of the President of the Republic, who is alleged to have interfered in the treatment of children.

PSD demands that the government suspend the implementation of local health units

The PSD demands that the government suspend the entry into force of the new Local Health Units (ULS), asking the executive to focus on emergency situations and not on “appointing ‘boys’” to these structures.

“This is the time to discuss political options and live with the current management in the government area. It is not the time to make hasty reforms just for the purpose of appointing ‘boys’ in some places,” said Miguel Pinto Luz, vice president of the PSD. during a press conference at the party’s national headquarters on the state of the National Health Service in Portugal.

The PSD “demands the outgoing government” to “immediately suspend the entry into force of the legal decree establishing the creation of the ULS”, scheduled for January 1, thereby “adding problems to an already very delicate situation” is avoided.

“Stop bureaucratic fantasies. The new ULS should be suspended. There is an urgent need for this management government to reorient its action and respond to the immediate problems of the SNS,” he stated, arguing that “the SNS does not need more entropy, more problems, more. even more confusion.”

When asked whether, if the government makes progress, the PSD would defend a veto by the President of the Republic, Pinto Luz preferred to maintain only the challenge to the PS and the executive for the time being.

The PSD even linked the resignation of the chairman of the board of directors of Hospital de Santa Maria, Ana Paula Martins, to this process of ‘hastily’ creating 31 new ULS.

“It was contrary to this measure that the chairman of the board of directors of this hospital announced its inability to continue, leaving the largest hospital in the country with an uncertain future,” he complained.

Pinto Luz believes that the “deviant configuration of the ULS”, which includes central and university hospitals, “makes edible not only the ULS itself, but also all reference hospital structures in Portugal”.
