PSD forces parliamentary hearing of the Minister of Labor in Santa Casa

The PSD submitted a request this Wednesday to make the hearing of the Minister of Labor in Parliament mandatory on the situation of Santa Casa Global, after the PS proposed postponing the vote on the Social Democrats’ first request.

“Postponing this decision, at a time when the public knows how close the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic is, could make the proposed hearing unfeasible,” the PSD explains in the potential request submitted today to the Parliamentary Commission for Labour, Social Affairs and Labour. Safety and inclusion.

According to the Social Democrats, the PS today asked the committee for the usual request that the PSD submitted on Monday requesting the hearing of Minister Ana Mendes Godinho and the former provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML), Edmundo Martinho, to postpone. .

Since it is “fundamental to clarify and obtain information on the situation of an institution that is so important in society”, the PSD went on to request a mandatory hearing with Minister Ana Mendes Godinho.

Since he cannot use the figure of potential regarding Edmundo Martinho – since he is no longer in office – the discussion and vote on the hearing of the former SCML provider will take place at the next meeting of the Working Committee.

The basis for the hearing requests is a report on Monday in the Público newspaper informing Minister Ana Mendes Godinho of the amounts needed for the internationalization of the social games of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa (SCML).

In response to the Lusa agency, the Ministry of Labor reiterated that same day that “there was no authorization for concrete investments in Brazil” and that “all investments related to internationalization were and are always dependent on the Minister’s decision of June 9 2020, which expressly requires compliance with a number of conditions”.

When heard in parliament on SCML’s financial situation at the end of September, Minister Ana Mendes Godinho assured delegates that she had only authorized the creation of the Santa Casa Global company and had not approved any subsequent investments.

The PSD believes that, given Monday’s news, “contradictory information and statements regarding the knowledge and approval of the guardianship regarding investments in Santa Casa Global are at stake, which affects the determination of responsibilities for the current financial situation which it faces deteriorates.” SCML”.

In its response to Lusa, the Ministry of Labor stated that the audit requested by Minister Ana Mendes Godinho on June 12, 2023 “is ongoing and will determine compliance with the order, as well as compliance with the legality of business activities, internationalization of the game by Santa Casa Global and the actions taken by the former SCML provider”.

He also recalled that an investigation has already been opened by the Central Investigation and Criminal Justice Department (DCIAP), following the preliminary report submitted by SCML to the Public Prosecution Service (PGR).
