BFMTV SURVEY – 66% of French people oppose the use of article 49.3 for the budget

With the exception of Emmanuel Macron voters who are overwhelmingly in favor (68%), the opposition to 49.3 to vote for the budget is majority within all categories of populations and electorates.

The government must use article 49.3 of the Constitution so that the first part of its budget project is approved in the Assembly without a vote, said Elisabeth Borne on Sunday night. But few French are in favor, according to a new “Opinion Live” poll conducted by the Elabe Institute for BFMTV and broadcast on Tuesday.

In fact, two French out of three (66%) oppose the use of this article of the Constitution, which allows a text to be adopted without a vote in Parliament. In detail, 33% are “completely opposed” and 33 “fairly opposed”.

75% of workers oppose 49.3

Only 7% of the French are “completely in favor” of the government pushing the finance bill through the National Assembly, and 26% are “fairly in favor”, for a total of 33%.

Only Emmanuel Macron’s voters in the first round of the 2022 presidential election are in favor (68%). In all other population categories and electorates, the opposition to 49.3 is in the majority.

It reaches 75% among manual workers, 60% among 18-24 year olds and 70% among workers. If we look at it according to partisan preference, 73% of supporters of the left are opposed (79% among those of La France insoumise) and those of RN by 75%. As for Republicans, 55% oppose the use of 49.3
