Liberal Initiative (IL) President João Cotrim Figueiredo today accused the PS of being deceptive, skillful, slow and vague features he believes were visible with the 2023 state budget (OE).
João Cotrim Figueiredo said today, in Coimbra, at the 1st National Assembly of Territorial Nuclei, which coincides with the 2nd National Assembly of Mayors, that the PS is cheating the Portuguese by using “big flashes with measures that are so little or nothing”.
He gave the youth tax authorities as an example, the real impact of which is “in the best case 12.5 euros per month”.
“There’s a statement here that goes, ‘If I give you €12.5 a month, you’ll stop, who are highly qualified and have jobs in different European countries,'” he joked.
Another example he gave was the “deduction for the second child, which goes from 750 to 900 euros in the IRS declaration” and which has an impact of eight euros per month, since it will not be this amount that a couple pays to decide to expand the family.
Cotrim Figueiredo also alluded to the “big name” of “reducing the marginal rate of the second level from 23% to 21% and thereby lowering the second level and all others after that because of the average rate”.
“What this is going to cost the state will not reach $200 million,” the liberal clarified, as “a measure seen as a major relief for the IRS tickles 1.2% of the IRS’s total income.”
According to him, “there are several measures that are sold as huge tax breaks, huge support to families or businesses, and are nothing more than false advertising”.
Referring to “the capable PS”, the IL leader gave the example of the “bragging, bragging rights, that the national debt will fall by about 10.5 percentage points in 2022 and forgot to mention that more than seven of those 10.5 only going down because of inflation.”
On the other hand, “the slow PS” can be seen, for example, in the “history of the deductibility of the losses of companies that go from five years to no deadline”.
“This has been asked by the Liberal Initiative since it came into parliament three years ago. It is always rejected by the PS as something that is not being done. And now it is being done. Because it takes three years to do something that makes sense ?” he asked.
In this regard, João Cotrim Figueiredo took the opportunity to criticize BE, which “has a view on taxation, namely on corporations, namely: when there are profits they tax, when there are good profits they tax extraordinarily and when there are no losses, it’s bad luck”.
“One day when BE would rule Portugal, it would be very smart to invest in this country. This just proves that no BE leader has ever created a job or a euro worth of wealth,” he said. he. , with applause from those present.
On “the vague PS”, the chairman of IL gave the example of the 900 pages of the budget, in which “the expression fiscal burden is not mentioned”.
“Why? We don’t know, because the PS is vague and also not committed to the tax burden,” he added.
In addition to these and other OE examples, João Cotrim Figueiredo believed that “these different PS (misleading, skilled, slow and vague)” were also visible in the theme of the Municipal Social Fund.
“The 104 million euros still had to be paid. In other words, the version of the PS is misleading. The government made a mistake in the calculation of the Municipal Social Fund and now it comes to agree with the municipalities. the skilled PS,” he said. .
According to the IL leader, “the government already knew the need for these 104 million in April, even before approving the state budget for 2022, it dragged its feet”, that is, it was slow.
“And this course of action means that the local authorities, who are no longer very aware of how much money they will have at their disposal from what comes out of the OE, are never sure about the amounts they have at their disposal. It’s the vague PS who find it difficult to live on the local power”, he lamented.
