Is the dissolution of the National Assembly still on the table? Elisabeth Borne raised the possibility of a dissolution in the event of a lasting blockade by the deputies, in an interview granted to the Portuguese newspaper public this Saturday. This speech comes after the deputies of Nupes and RN have presented several motions of censure against the government in recent days.
“If there is an alliance to overthrow the government of groups that cannot govern together, going back to the polls can be a way,” he hinted.
The threat of dissolution was wielded by Emmanuel Macron last September if the National Assembly did not approve the pension reform next January.
“A dead end”
The Prime Minister also regretted that the Nupes and the RN voted together on a motion of censure against the government, speaking of a “scandalous” alliance that leads to a “dead end”.
“Some left-wing leaders (…) were delighted with the support of RN, and what this shows is that for this left-wing party (…) and in this Nupes alliance, some are willing to do anything to overthrow the government, including abandoning of their values,” he said.
In recent days, several motions of censure have been filed in response to the use of 49.3 by the executive. These provisions, if adopted, allow for the overthrow of the government. But for the moment, insists Elisabeth Borne, “it is seen that there is no credible majority that can exist between the Nupes and the RN, the voters do not share in any way the same vision of society.”
The article of the Constitution has already been fired three times by the government to vote on the 2023 budget and the Social Security budget.
The participation of the RN in the vote on the first motion of censure presented by the Nupes had created unease in the ranks of the left and provoked criticism from the right and from the majority, who denounced a collusion between the RN and the Nupes.
