Actions against works of art: for Rousseau, “you have to listen to the message behind it”

Invited this Sunday from BFM Politique, the EELV deputy Sandrine Rousseau reacted to the recent actions carried out by environmental activists against works of art, believing that by dint of having “types of indignation about the method, we do not raise the underlying issue” . .

A few days after a new action by environmentalists against a work of art, the pearl girl of Vermeer in the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, Sandrine Rousseau estimates, this Sunday, in BFM Politique, that “we must listen to the message behind it”.

“I would not do it [ce type d’action, ndlr] and I wouldn’t encourage a young person to do it, but you have to listen to the message behind it. By dint of having a kind of indignation about the method, we do not ask the question of the substance, which is central today, ”he explained on our antenna.

The EELV deputy for the 9th district of Paris stressed that the actions against works of art were “numerous in the militant and activist history”, recalling that the suffragettes had cut Venus in her mirror de Velásquez in 1914 to win the right to vote.

“They wouldn’t have done it without glass”

During the last actions, the activists “acted knowing that there was a window, they would not have done it without a window, so there is no degradation of a work of art,” he continued.

“We consider that a work of art is a collective asset, precious and very important for humanity, the planet is a collective asset, precious and very important for humanity,” said the environmentalist. After two years of demonstrating every Friday and speaking in public, through Greta Thunberg, young people “are trying other actions,” she analyzes.

Before adding: “The question that they ask, and that I also ask, is: ‘How do we realize the seriousness of the situation?'”

“Emmanuel Macron is climatosceptic”

Faced with global warming that promises to be more serious than expected “according to all scientific reports”, Sandrine Rousseau expressed her concern and wished to launch an appeal:

“When do we react? When do we move? When do we think that the most important thing is not to maintain our car but to preserve our planet? When do we think that the most important thing is to preserve the lives of our children instead of putting water in swimming pools? artificial?

The deputy said she was “very dissatisfied” since she entered the National Assembly “because all the approved laws do not change anything in the system we are in.” However, according to her, we must “achieve” radically change the society in which we live. “Today I don’t know what to do anymore, we have a few months to react,” she continued, before accusing Emmanuel Macron and his government of being “climate skeptics.”

“We don’t have a sobriety plan. The only thing we have is to turn off the lights of the stadiums half an hour before”, scolded the environmentalist, addressing in passing “the polar” that members of the government recently used to alert about the efforts to be made in terms of energy sobriety.

Sandrine Rousseau said that she regretted “the absence of an ecological perspective developed by Emmanuel Macron and Elisabeth Borne in all their speeches”.
