An event: Jordan Bardella became the first president of the National Association (RN) on Sunday not to bear Le Pen’s name since the party’s creation in 1972. No party, however. Two heavyweights from the far-right formation have been excluded from the new composition of the party’s governing bodies. Steeve Briois, Mayor of Hénin-Beaumont, and Bruno Bilde, MP for Pas-de-Calais, are no longer part of the national office and executive office of the RN.
The two elected officials responded in the process, believing, like Steeve Briois on BFMTV, that it is a “beginning of the purge.” The councilor, also a deputy for Marine Le Pen in the National Assembly, warned of a risk of “re-radicalization” of the party to the flame.
“I don’t want to see the RN get mad and angry, who are only obsessed with one thing: identity,” he said.
Before warning: “There is the social aspect that must be maintained.” A way to oppose two lines. And to put a blow to the little music that played during the Congress. The one sung by supporters of Jordan Bardella and Louis Aliot, who highlighted “differences in background and personality”, thus maintaining the idea of party unity in the political line.
“No risk of re-demonization”
Guest of RTL on Monday, Jordan Bardella played in turn, indicating not to use “the media and the press to settle internal accounts”. “I was elected with 85% of the votes”, he later recalled to better underline his legitimacy while seeking to reassure: “There is no risk of re-demonization”. And to insist:
“I have been interim president for a year, we have achieved results this year with Marine Le Pen that we have never achieved in the history of our movement. If she has entrusted me with responsibilities for three years, it is because there is real ideological continuity between us. I intend to continue the path that she has taken both in the social line and in protecting the French and her identity.
The day before, on BFMTV, Sébastien Chenu had started the demining operation. First defending the new head of the party. “Steeve Briois and Bruno Bilde don’t get along with Jordan Bardella, they don’t want to work with him. Jordan made them a series of job offers that they didn’t want to accept alongside him.”
Other projects to be carried out
The one who is one of the six vice presidents of the National Assembly, had also taken care to underline the social fiber of Jordan Bardella. How? By insisting on the “European National Rally line” in 2019, carried by Jordan Bardella “under the backdrop of [crise des] yellow vests”. But also remembering the trajectory of the 27-year-old, originally from Seine-Saint-Denis -which the interested party regularly highlights- and “raised by a mother in social difficulty”.
If our political columnist Mathieu Croissandeau recognizes that it is a “crisis”, he stresses that “the National Association has known others”. “Steeve Briois left with Bruno Mégret in 1998 during a split in the National Front, before returning to the party”, he recalls about it.
For him, “Jordan Bardella’s works are not so much Steeve Briois as Bruno Bilde.” Mathieu Croissandeau thus enumerates Jordan Bardella’s need to “establish his authority”, to “find electoral legitimacy” -the MEP has no “fief, nor really local presence”- and to “prepare RN to become the ‘party of alternation’ , in the words of Marine Le Pen”.
