Prime Minister Michel Barnier declared this Monday “convinced” that the rape trial in Mazan “will mark a before and after” in the fight against violence against women.
“The fight against violence against women requires the full mobilization of the entire society. It is a social issue, a fair and necessary fight,” declared the head of Government.
Michel Barnier spoke from the Hôtel-Dieu AP-HP in Paris on the occasion of the international day for the elimination of violence against women, a “very serious issue that requires unity, intransigence, means, strength.”
“I want to tell women that they can count on the mobilization of this entire government to be at their side,” added the Prime Minister.
Salute the “courage” of Gisèle Pelicot
This intervention by the Prime Minister occurs when the first searches have been carried out in Mazan’s rape trial. For Dominique Pelicot, the prosecution requested the maximum sentence of 20 years in criminal prison for his “despicable actions” against his ex-wife Gisèle Pelicot. 51 men are accused of having raped the latter, drugged by her husband.
On this issue of the supply of chemicals, Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced that health insurance will reimburse detection kits in several departments on an experimental basis.
“In recent months the French have been deeply marked by the incredible courage of Gisèle Pelicot, this process affects us all and we are all waiting with great attention for the result of this process,” the prime minister also declared.
