“The red lines have not changed since September,” warns Jordan Bardella. While discussions on the budget continue in the National Assembly and the use of 49.3 by Michel Barnier is probable, the president of the National Rally expressed this Wednesday, November 27, before the BFMTV microphone, the position of his party, which considers the ability to censor the government thanks to a convenient alliance with the left.
“If the government persists and does not want to discuss, this government will fall,” he summarized, warning against “a punitive budget” that “will penalize working France.”
“Concern about purchasing power”
Questioned during a signing session in Strasbourg, Jordan Bardella recalled some “claims” from his party, “in particular, concern about purchasing power, about this increase in taxes on companies.”
If the Prime Minister were overthrown, this decision by MPs would come next week or a little later, on December 20. The option of maintaining the government is not completely ruled out at this point.
On Wednesday, deputies and senators reached an agreement on the Social Security budget. But this agreement is not enough as it stands: this version of the text must now be submitted to a final vote in both chambers and, therefore, RN could vote in favor of censure of the left in the National Assembly.
Censorship possible from December 4
“We will vote on the motion of censure with the New Popular Front,” said RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy, the far-right party’s reference on public finances, during a press conference on Wednesday.
The text on the Social Security budget could return to the chamber on December 4, assured the president of the Finance commission, Éric Coquerel. Two other budget texts will follow.
Whatever happens, the survival of Michel Barnier’s government depends, since its creation, on the National Rally and its willingness or not to vote on a motion of censure with the left.
