Possible presidencies of study groups that make react. A meeting of the National Assembly on Tuesday night acted the study groups created in the coming weeks while pointing to the political groups that could take the course. It is likely that the RN deputies will collect a dozen, such as “the economy, security and digital sovereignty”.
But it is the possibility of directing the group on “anti-Semitism” and “AIDS” that makes the left-leaning blocs react the most.
“The study group ‘Anti-Semitism’ chaired by the extreme right? Inconceivable”, advanced the president of the socialist group Boris Vallaud in his twitter account.
“Impossible” presidencies for Sandrine Rousseau
This outrage is shared by environmentalist Sandrine Rousseau.
“The RN that has the anti-Semitism and AIDS study groups. A party founded by the SS and of which one of the historical leaders spoke of putting “AIDS” in the “sanatoriums”. It’s impossible!” judged the Parisian deputy.
Change the image of the RN
While there were 122 study groups between 2017 and 2022, Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly, approved the instruction in September: their number must be reduced to 58.
Therefore, the mission was entrusted to the deputy RN Sébastien Chenu, due to his status as Vice President of the Assembly, to speak on the subject. If the list will officially stop next December, the work of the office has already registered the creation or maintenance of the groups.
The elected officials of Marine Le Pen also took the opportunity to position themselves as a priority in the presidency of the group for the fight against anti-Semitism, a very strong symbol for the party that seeks to gain notoriety since its strong comeback in the National Assembly with 89 deputies last month of June.
“Out of the question” for the current president of the group
Within the presidential majority, reluctance is also strong. In particular matter: the history of the movement. Jean-Marie Le Pen, the co-founder of the FN/RN, was, for example, sentenced for “incitement to hatred”, “disputing a crime against humanity” or even “racial public insult”.
The profile of the Var deputy, Frédéric Boccaletti, who founded a bookstore known for offering negationist works, had also sparked controversy when he arrived at the Palais-Bourbon during the last legislative elections.
“The distribution of the convention study groups has not been recorded. We oppose the attribution of the anti-Semitism group to the RN. This group has always been in the majority and should continue to be so”, said the Renaissance deputy Benjamín. Haddad on his Twitter account.
“It is out of the question,” scolded the current president of the group for the fight against anti-Semitism, Sylvain Maillard, in the columns of the Sunday newspaper.
“We have all the legitimacy,” says Chenu
On the side of the National Association, we defend the will to chair this study group.
“We are the first to position ourselves. Renaissance did it only after us. This is an important issue in French society and we want to see concretely how it is possible to fight anti-Semitism,” Sebastien Chenu explains to BFMTV.com.
“We have all the legitimacy to move this issue forward,” the RN vice president of the Assembly still judges.
Next week a new meeting will be held in which the different political groups will be able to discuss the presidencies again before the office of the National Assembly validates or not this list next December.
This is not the first time that a controversy has arisen over the issue of study groups. At the end of October, La France Insoumise had accused the RN of having put an end to several study groups such as the one for the reception of migrants or the one dedicated to discrimination and LGBTQI-phobias in the world.
