Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday, April 9 that France could recognize a Palestinian state “in June” on the occasion of a conference that co -resa with Saudi Arabia in New York.
“We have to go to recognition and, therefore, in the coming months we will go,” he said in an interview with the transmission of France 5 Channel on Wednesday. “Our goal is somewhere in June, with Saudi Arabia to preside over this conference (in Palestine, editor’s note) where we could end this movement of reciprocal recognition by many,” he added.

In February 2024, the Head of State said that “the recognition of a Palestinian State is not a taboo for France”, believing that “we owe it to the Palestinians, whose aspirations have been trampled for too long.”
“We owe it to the Israelis who have experienced the greatest anti -semi -seasons of our century. We must in a region that aspires to escape the promoters of chaos and seeds of revenge,” said the French president.
147 of the 193 UN countries recognize the state of Palestine. In May 2024, Spain, Ireland and Norway formalized this approach, which led to 10 the number of European Union members granted recognition. Before these countries, Bulgaria, Chipre, Malta, Hungary, Poland, Sweden and Romania had already recognized the state of Palestine.
Other European countries have recognized the state of Palestine, mainly in Eastern Europe, such as Ukraine, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro or Belarus.
When asked about this issue, French Foreign Minister Stéphane Sévisnéné had considered that the conditions are not met “to date” so that a recognition of a Palestinian State “has a real impact” in the process aimed at the solution to two states with Israel.
